The entire Talcher is in a water crisis
Talcher, (IYA NEWS 02/03/2023) Five decades ago, Brahmani river, a natural spring in Talcher region, was protecting the forest area from summer rains and at that time there was no water crisis. When trees are called life, in the industrial Talcher area, due to mining and various industries, a lot of forest has been cut and cleared. Even streams and streams flowing from hilly mountains have been destroyed by mining. Talcher area has coal mines along with NTPC, TTPS, FCI, Kolawseri, Nalco, Dereng Jindal and small industries. The people of Talcher area depended on the Brahmani River for many years. But since the day of construction of this workshop, they have built a pump house on the banks of the river and pumped water through large home pipes, ignoring the rules of the government, they have been pumping water from underground by installing borewells.

Deep coal mining coupled with the number of borewells and deforestation are the main causes of the water crisis, environmentalists have said. Not only this, because the Rengali and Samal barrages have been dammed in the upper part of this Brahmani river, the water falls dry from the river for 8 months of the year. Similarly, due to high summer heat and the above problems, well ponds and tube wells in Talcher area will dry up for 8 months from November to June, causing hot water problems continuously. The residents of the area are facing problems of not taking it and there are many examples of incidents of men and women repeatedly agitating for this water bait. MCL supplies water from the city to the rural areas with the help of tanks to deal with the Utkat water problem. But this water is the conch of the sea! The water supplied by MCL through CSR funds is fraudulent, so people are in a bit of a quandary for water. In view of this water shortage, the government planned to build a pump house and pipe system to provide permanent water to all the families, but today it is not feasible. Although the concerned developer has already constructed the overhead water tank, it has not been possible to reach the people due to the fact that they could not complete the pipe laying work to all the villages and settlements at the specified time. Due to the lack of sincerity of the administration and politicians for its permanent problem, it is said that the people of Talcher today are struggling for water supply. However, when will the permanent water supply system to the 21 wards and 21 panchayats under the block in Talcher Municipal Council has raised questions.
